OUR FIERCE STORY
Fierce Female Hockey is a social enterprise that provides safe and engaging spaces for females to learn and grow in the sport of hockey, both on and off the ice, as players and coaches. The ultimate goal of Fierce is building a stronger and more unified female hockey community to help grow the game in positive ways.
Fierce delivered its first camp in the Spring 2022 in Brandon with over 100 players attending. Word spread quick about the unique program and experience Fierce offers. Fast forward a few years and now Fierce is delivering camps in multiple communities across Manitoba annually with 300+ players being reached, some travelling as much as eight hours to attend! Fierce would not be possible without community. As a social enterprise, Fierce gives back in big ways. Annually, and in partnership with Brandon Source for Sports, Fierce provides $2,500 in bursaries to camp volunteers who are pursuing post secondary studies. Learn about past bursary recipients.
FIERCE FEMALE LEADERS
Developing Fierce Female leaders in the sport is key to increasing female engagement. We need to show our young female athletes all that is possible. To help grow the next generation of female leaders in the sport, Fierce Female Hockey alongside Brandon Source for Sports have created the FIERCE LEADERSHIP BURSARY. There is no better investment in the future of female hockey than our young volunteers.
OUR FIERCE LEADER
I am committed to upholding our Fierce Female Hockey motto… Just try and Stop us!
Amy Doerksen is the Owner/Operator and Lead Instructor of Fierce Female Hockey. The idea came to her on a drive to a U15AAA practice last season. She saw a gap in programming for female players and wanted to fill it.
Amy is a ringette convert who moved to hockey in junior high. She never looked back and was fortunate to play for the University of Manitoba Bisons on their first USport Team in 1997. Following university, Amy kept playing hockey but also started coaching. Amy has coached at a variety of levels from U7 all the way to U18. She holds several coaching levels including High Performance Technical.
Amy is incredibly passionate about promoting female sports because she knows firsthand the amazing benefits they bring. Presently, Amy primarily coaches her kids and loves every minute of grassroots hockey. Amy was the recipient of Hockey Canada’s BFL 2022 Community Coach of the Year and also won Hockey Brandon’s Arnold Nichol Award for the most committed U7 Coach.
FIERCE CAMP COMMITTEE
We are committed to upholding our most cherished values in every project and task we take on.
It takes incredible team work to make Fierce a success. As a social enterprise, the goal is not generating profit. Fierce is about keeping participation costs as low as possible and we do that through an amazing network of dedicated volunteers.
Each camp we put on has an organizing committee that plays an active role in making the Fierce experience unforgettable. Fierce is incredibly grateful for the time and effort our volunteers commit to building a Fierce community that we can all enjoy.
Interested in getting involved? We are always looking for Fierce Females to join our volunteer network! Volunteer roles include everything from helping organize the camps to being a part of the camps themselves as an instructor on or off the ice.
