Meet LEXI one of our Fierce Leadership Bursary winners. Lexy is from Newdale, MB. She started playing hockey when she was five and is a fierce left winger. Her long term hockey goal is to play hockey for as long as she can and then get into coaching to help strengthen the world of women’s hockey!
When asked what it means to be fierce, Lexy said this –
“Like any athlete, I faced adversity with coaches, fellow teammates, and people who didn’t support female hockey or
Indigenous hockey players like myself. Resilience is key in these situations, and I learned this by looking up to my role models such as Serena Williams, Simone Biles, and Marie- Philip Poulin who are fierce icons in the world of women’s sports. But being fierce doesn’t mean that you are always perfect and make no mistakes, being fierce means learning from your mistakes and using that to better yourself and the female sport around you.”
We are so proud to have Lexy as a fierce ambassador. You can watch Lexy play this season with the Assiniboine Community College Women’s Hockey Team.
